Hello everyone, welcome back to my blog.
Today, I want to talk about my 5 favourite films of all time. The ones that have changed my point of view, gave me a message or even make me how I am right now.
Also, it’s a list for those who want to watch something new and have some little fun.
So here are my suggestions…
American Beauty is a 1999 film drama directed by Sam Mendes.
American Beauty explains the life of 6 people. How they act in society, at work, at home and even at school. It’s all about work, love, sex, infidelity, fatherhood, drugs homosexuality, routine… A bunch of things that happens in real life.
Lester is a man in his fourties and tired of his life. He just wants a change of his sorroundings, and chooses to live fully every day. Without knowing that in this same year he wil be dead. Who will do it? And why?
The film gives you an important message: it’s a critic of the society where we live, an hipocritical society full of conventionalisms which opresses and induces us to falseness and lies. Also, it manifests the fear that people have to face the cruel reality that produce us anxiety, complexes and insecurity. But the most important thing: is that it show us the beauty in our surrounding, it’s everywhere in the little details that we can’t appreciate because of the routine. And last but not less important, the fact of living in the way we wanted. Have done whatever we wanted to do, and not what people expected from us.
”It’s hard to stay mad, when there’s so much beauty in the world”
Big Fish is a 2013 American film drama directed by Tim Burton.
This film is about Edward Bloom’s life. Edward is a charming and charismatic young man who lives a lot adventures and experiences in different worlds. When he gets older and has a child, Edward likes to tell him stories of his adventures. Will (Edwards’ son) when is in his adult age, doesn’t beleive him anymore and gets tired of his fables. Will decides to not speak his father for a long time, until Edward gets cancer. Then the movie gives flashbacks as Edward explains his youth.
The film sends a special and beautiful message which is: People should follow their dreams and fight for them as Edward did it. We shouldn’t forget the child inside us. So it’s a really deep, fun, and beautiful film with Ewan McGregor as the main character (♥).

“A man tells his stories so many times that he becomes the stories. They live on after him, and in that way he becomes immortal.”
DEAD POETS SOCIETY
Dead poets society is a 1989 American drama film directer by Peter Weir and written by Tom Schulman.
The film happens in the Welton Academy, a prep and well-respected school. Students take their studies as something dull and pragmatic until John Keating ( the new teacher) comes to the school. Keating is a unconventional educator, who asks their students to stand on their tables and tear chapters from their books. Also, introduces his students to poetry which has a profound effect on them. Keating urges all the boys to seize the day and live their lifes fully.
The film talks about being youself, not anyone else. What you think it’s right, not what everyone esle says or thinks. Of becoming a freethinker and don’t give in to the pressures of society. Just says that it’s okey to think outside the box. Also, that you just have one life, and you have the control to guide it and achieve what you want the most.
“Carpe diem, seize the day boys, make your lives extraordinary.”
Submarine is a 2010 coming-of-age indie comedy-drama film written and directed by Richard Ayoade.
Oliver Tate has a soul of a poet. As a common teenager, has the struggle of losing his virginity with his new and only girlfriend Jordana. He also has some problems with the relationship between his parents. Her mother is entranced by a self-styled mystic named Graham which really concerns Oliver. Submarine isn’t a insipid teen sex comedy. Somehow, the film tries to capture that delicate moment in some adolescent lives when idealism and trust lead to tentative experiments.
This film it’s a special film for me. Since the first time I saw it, it has become one of my favourites. It’s touching, sweet and very funny. Furthermore, the style it’s really indie and naive which is my own style. The soundtrack from Alex Turner (Arctic Monkeys) is just perfect. The film doesn’t have a specific message, but it’s quite unique. Such a good film to watch on a sunday afternoon with some popcorns and a soft blanket.
“I love you more than words, and I’m a big fan of words.”
LE FABULEUX DESTIN D’AMÉLIE POULAIN
Amélie is a 2001 romantic comedy film directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet.
Amélie Poulain is a young Parisian girl who dedicates her time to make people happy through little details. This girl has a huge imagination and also suffers of loneliness because of her special personality. Until she meets Nino, another special boy like her. Amélie it’s a simple but nice story. The film narrates who is Amélie, why her childhood is lonely and how she takes part in other people’s life. Amélie is like an angel, she concers about others hapiness changing the direction of their destiny. But forgetting her own hapiness.
This is a unique, special and ‘magnifique’ film. The characters are just fabulous. And the soundtrack is amazing, such a sweet piano played by Yann Tiersen. This film is a French treasure to discover. It has a peculiar and naive style, the parisian atmosphere, the soundtrack, the main character… everything in it is perfect. The message of Amélie is the importance of the little things in life. And the ability of appreciating it’s charming. Really one of my favourite ones from all time. Give it a try and you won’t regret it.
